Professor Heybeli serves as the Chief of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Tekirdag Namik Kemal University School of Medicine, Tekirdag, Turkey.
Graduating from Istanbul University Istanbul School of Medicine in 1992, he started his career in orthopedic surgery at Cerrahpasa School of Medicine, Istanbul same year. He has also completed his Masters’ Degree on Biomedical Engineering at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul in 2010. His main areas of expertise include foot and ankle surgery, arthroscopy, sports injuries and hip and knee adult reconstruction. Dr. Heybeli’s special interests include cartilage problems of the ankle, and total ankle arthroplasty, an operative technique he personally pioneered in Turkey.
Dr. Heybeli was named the “Physician of the Year” in 2014 by Istanbul Directorate of Health and has won the “Crystal Seagull” award in 2015, given by the Alumni Association of KALID for personal achievement (The Alumni Association of Maarif College in Kadıköy – his high school.) He was a travelling fellow for EFORT in 1997 and for EFAS in 2004.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Heybeli is an award-winning medical researcher. Some of his awards are the following: Best Study at the First Turkish Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Congress, 2000; Second Place at the XVII. Turkish National Congress of Orthopedics and Traumatology, 2001; First Place for the highest number of academic work for the year 2001 from Süleyman Demirel University Assessment Committee of Academic Studies, 2002; Best Clinical Paper at the 3rd Dervis Manizade Memorial Meeting, 2004; Best Clinical Study, XIV. Akif Sakir Sakar Scientific Awards, Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Society (TOTDER), 2009; Best Research Paper, 15th National Congress of Biomedical Engineering, 2010.
He is the author of 4 international, 10 national book chapters in textbooks and 39 international, 28 national publications in medical journals. He has accumulated 30 international, 67 national congress presentations and was invited to give 80 different lectures. He was the editor of the “Orthopedics and Traumatology Special Topics - Cartilage Problems” (2011) and the Course President for TOTEK (Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Training Council) Orthopedics and Traumatology Basic Sciences and Research Course (2011). He has taught in 3 universities as an assistant, associate and full professor. He was a board member of the Turkish Foot and Ankle Society between later becoming the Secretary and Vice President. He is currently the Vice President of the Turkish Organ, Tissue and Cell Transplantation Society.
