Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I am honoured to serve as the Vice President of the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association (APOA) Foot and Ankle section for 2020 – 2022.
Our core mission of the APOA Foot and Ankle section is aligned with the APOA’s mission of promoting education, research and fellowship amongst orthopaedic surgeons, and specifically foot and ankle surgeons in this region.
We are here to serve the profession while championing the interest of our patients through advancements towards the highest quality of musculoskeletal care.
Management in foot and ankle surgery has advanced tremendously over the past decades. We believe that our ongoing conferences and fellowships delivered by established and renowned senior surgeons can provide valuable resources and knowledge for young surgeons.
The APOA Foot and Ankle section has established a solid foundation since year 2016 that is still growing and I am sure it will continue to grow. I want to encourage young foot and ankle surgeons to join us as members to continue this education, research, fellowship and development of our foot and ankle subspeciality in the Asia Pacific region.
With the emergence of COVID-19 pandemic that comes with many unpredictable challenges, we continue to improve access to real time information pertinent to our speciality from valuable input sources locally and regionally through virtual educational initiatives.
In order to continue this important knowledge exchange, we were actively involved in organising CMEs workshops and various educational webinars, including the fortnightly case discussion that was initiated by President Dr Rajiv Shah. Nevertheless, we look forward to presenting diverse topics including cadaveric courses in a more engaging and interactive format through face to face sessions soon.
As we navigate this global crisis, it’s important that we reflect and remind ourselves that this battle is not yet over. We must continue to work to do whatever we can to end this pandemic. Let us all stay safe.
Chua Yeok Pin
Vice President
Asia Pacific Foot & Ankle Council
